Build and Materials

The Metro Runner is a 6-liter sling that feels like it holds a bit more than its stated capacity, helped in part by compression straps that let you cinch it down or expand it as needed.

Key construction details:

• YKK zippers throughout, reported to use number 8 and number 5 sizes across their packs. They run smoothly and are large enough for solid zipper pulls.
• Zippers feature a DWR coating that repels water but is not fully waterproof. As with any coating, it can wear over time and can be reapplied.
• Cordura fabric, including a front pocket with a bright gold interior lining that improves visibility inside.
• Four D-rings across the back for external attachment, plus additional hooks at the bottom.

Front Face Options

The Metro Runner comes in three front configurations:

• Tactical – Velcro patch panel with tactical webbing (the version reviewed here).
• Full furry – a Velcro cross layout.
• Vanilla – a clean face with just the Greenroom136 logo.

The tactical version offers the most flexibility for external carry. In testing, it held patches, custom 3D-printed Velcro/MOLLE attachments, and even a flashlight mounted to the webbing.

The Bottom Card Pocket

One standout design touch is a hidden Velcro-based pocket at the bottom that opens from both sides. Greenroom136 positions it as a spot for a metro card or transit card you can scan on the go, since the Cordura allows scanners to read through it. The Velcro closures are strong, so it can also hold cash or other small items you want tucked away.

Organization

The Metro Runner is essentially a two-compartment sling with strong internal organization.

Front pocket:

• One larger pocket and a passport-sized slot
• Two pen slots that can hold two pens plus a Sharpie, and are deep enough for a full-size pen
• A D-ring on seat-belt-style webbing at the top for keys, AirPods, or similar

Main compartment:

• Opens wide and flat for full visibility of the contents, useful when the sling is sitting on a desk
• Three stash pockets on one side
• A dedicated tech pocket
• A passport-sized stash pocket on the other side

The wide clamshell opening is a real strength for staying organized, since you can see everything at a glance.

Gadget Fit Check

Using 3D-printed dummies and real devices, here's how common items fit:

• Nintendo Switch – Fits perfectly, even accommodating the side controllers. The rectangular shape is well suited to gaming consoles.
• iPad mini – Fits in the tech pocket, including with a thicker case and pencil slot.
• Kindle – Fits well in the tech pocket, the main pocket, and the front pocket with no closure issues.
• iPhone 16 Pro Max – Fits in the tech pocket and closes right at the top; in most other pockets it fits but won't fully close. Best kept in the tech pocket.

Passport Check

For travelers, nearly every pocket handled a passport-sized notebook and could close over it. The main exception is the small gadget pocket, which is limited to smaller items. Note that this pack does not have a dedicated back secret pocket, which is the usual recommendation for passport carry.

Comfort and Strap System

The back harness has comfortable padding, and the shoulder strap is a highlight.

Important caveat: on this stock version, the strap itself is not removable. You can swap the shoulder padding, but you're committed to the included strap. Through their customization programs, Greenroom136 offers different buckle options, including Cobra and Fidlock-style buckles.

Where It Falls Short

A few limitations stood out during testing:

• No 360-degree padding in the tech pocket. Greenroom136 is known for padded tech pockets, so its absence here is a missed opportunity, especially given the Cordura lining.
• No floor padding. This matters most for gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch, since the pack is built around that rectangular, console-friendly shape. A padded Velcro floor pad would help.
• No third pocket or back secret pocket on this stock version.

Several of these features do appear in Greenroom136's BYC (build-your-own) program, along with options like shock cord. The takeaway is that some of these enhancements would be welcome on the core product rather than reserved for custom builds.
