The AER Simple Kit is a newly launched minimalist organizer that lands somewhere between a tech pouch, a dopp kit, and an everyday-carry catch-all. This is one of the first AER products we've covered on PackWise Gear, so here's a close look at how the Simple Kit performs after a full pack-out.

First Impressions

AER is a San Francisco-based brand founded in 2014, known for clean designs, smart organization, and long-lasting materials. Their backpacks in particular have earned a loyal following. The Simple Kit is one of two products they released recently, alongside a gym tote, and it slots into their Ultra collection.

Out of the box, the build quality feels solid. The zippers are smooth, the pulls are generously sized, and the overall construction retains its shape well even when packed.

Build and Materials

The Simple Kit is made from Ultra 200X, a sailcloth-style fabric that is ultralight, high-performance, and water resistant. It's similar in feel to X-Pac. According to AER's materials, this is part of their Ultra collection and is described as being significantly stronger than steel by weight.

Organization

The Simple Kit uses a two-compartment layout, each accessed by its own Aquaguard zipper. Different colored zippers help you quickly identify which pocket you're opening.

• Front compartment: Includes a mesh pocket on one side and Ultra fabric with film lining on the other. The mesh is a smart touch for smaller items.
• Main compartment: Features piping along the top edge, a matching mesh pocket, and Ultra fabric lining inside.

There's also a mesh divider between the two pockets. Beyond adding structure, it offers a nice bonus: you can place sunglasses lens-side against the mesh for a bit of extra protection.

Branding is kept minimal. There's an Ultra fabric tag inside, but no external logo. The kit also ships with an AER branding tag noting it as a special edition piece.

For hanging or carrying, there's a loop built in, which adds flexibility for clipping it inside a bag or hanging it from a hook.

Pack-Out Performance

In a full pack-out, the Simple Kit comfortably handled a substantial tech load, including:

Even after loading all of that, there was still some room to spare, and the pouch closed without strain. The structure held its shape well throughout, and the flashlight can be hooked to the internal loop for quick access.

Comfort and Everyday Use

At just around 45 grams, the Simple Kit is genuinely lightweight, which makes it easy to toss into a backpack or carry on its own. The 9-inch height gives it enough room to potentially work as a standalone desk caddy, and it fits well in a backpack side pocket.

Because it stands on its own reasonably well, it's versatile enough to shift between roles: tech pouch on a trip, EDC organizer at home, or a desk-side catch-all.

Who It's For

The Simple Kit is a good fit if you want a single organizer that can flex across multiple uses:

The main drawback is the price. At around $39, it sits on the higher side for a simple pouch, especially compared to similar Ultra-fabric options in the $35 range. A price closer to $29 would feel more in line for a pouch of this type, though the material quality and lifetime warranty help justify the premium.

One small miss: there's no Velcro patch panel. Adding one would make a nice spot for a patch and round out the design.
