Orbitkey Urban Sling Plus 6L Review — Best Travel Sling?
by OrbitKey
We packed the Orbitkey Urban Sling Plus 6L to the brim for a trip to Canada, and its expandable depth and smart pockets swallowed our tech without breaking a sweat. Here's whether it earns a spot in your rotation.
A Travel Sling Worth a Closer Look
After years of moving between countries with everything from a single backpack to a full five-suitcase setup, finding a sling that handles real travel duty is rare. The Orbitkey Urban Sling Plus 6L caught my attention ahead of an upcoming trip to Canada, and after packing it out completely, it earned a spot in the rotation.
Build and Materials
The Urban Sling Plus arrives in an olive-toned color and uses a mix of fabrics across the body:
- Front exterior: recycled nylon
- Rear panel: ripstop polyester
- Lining: polyester-based
The zippers are reverse coil and weather-protected, with what appears to be a DWR coating on the main exterior zipper. The brand's zipper pulls are included and feel decent in hand. I couldn't confirm whether the zippers are YKK.
Key dimensions and specs, as listed:
- Height: 12.8 inches
- Width: 8.27 inches
- Expansion: up to about 4 inches
- Weight: approximately 440 grams
- Strap length: about 45.28 inches
- Strap width: about 1.7 inches
- Price: around $100, including free shipping
This is a big sling by design, and the expandable depth adds meaningful capacity when you need it.
Organization
The layout centers on three pockets, plus a well-placed top handle.
Front Pocket
- A mesh pocket suited for sunglasses
- Three slip pockets
- A pen loop up top
The mesh here is a highlight, comparable in quality to what you'd find on AER bags.
Main Compartment
- A large central cavity for bulkier items
- Two mesh pockets inside
This is the workhorse space for larger gear and accessories.
Rear Pocket
The back pocket is padded and versatile, with a few useful touches:
- A cable pass-through at the top, so a power bank on one side can charge a device on the other
- Two slip drop-in pockets
To show what it can actually hold, here's a sense of the full pack-out:
- Front pocket: phone stand, gaming console, hand sanitizer, an X-Pac wallet with cash and passport, a pen, chapstick, nose inhaler, charging cables, and a lens-cleaning cloth
- Main compartment: two mesh pockets holding multiple charging cables (five in total across sides), an eye mask, an inflatable neck pillow, and Soundcore noise-canceling earbuds
- Rear pocket: an iPad mini in a cover, a small accessory pouch, an Anker travel charger, a Nitecore power bank, and a laptop charger
That's an admittedly over-prepared load, but it demonstrates how much the sling can absorb without feeling like it's at its limit.
Comfort and Carry
The strap measures about 45 inches long and 1.7 inches wide. It includes two hook webbings on each side for external carry, which opens up options for clipping on additional gear. In this case, a Hero Clip was attached for extra utility.
One thing to note: the rear panel is lined ripstop polyester with no breathable mesh. If back ventilation is a priority for you, that's worth keeping in mind.
Who It's For
The Urban Sling Plus 6L is a strong fit for travelers who want a single sling that can carry a substantial amount of tech, cables, and everyday essentials without switching to a full backpack. The external carry webbing and expandable depth add flexibility, and the pocket layout keeps a large load organized.
If you prefer a compact, minimalist sling, the size may be more than you need. But for longer trips and heavier daily carry, this one covers a lot of ground.
PackWiseGear Rating
Excellent
| Category | Score | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | 8.5/10 | How well the bag helps you separate, arrange and quickly find your gear — pockets, dividers, laptop sleeves, key clips, internal layout. The PackWiseGear team praised the three-pocket layout with a sunglasses mesh pocket, multiple slip pockets, a padded back compartment and cable pass-through that let us organize cables, tech and travel accessories cleanly. |
| Materials & Construction | 8.0/10 | Quality of fabric, zippers, buckles, stitching, padding and overall build. We found the mixed recycled nylon and ripstop polyester build with weather-protected reverse coil zippers and decent pulls solid, though we noted uncertainty about whether the zippers are YKK and wished reverse coil was used throughout. |
| Access | 8.0/10 | How quickly you can reach gear while wearing the bag or on a table — zipper placement, opening style, compartment visibility. The PackWiseGear team liked the well-placed handle and easy-to-reach pockets, including a top cable pass-through, giving us convenient access to gear. |
| Comfort Potential | 6.5/10 | Strap width, padding, stability, back-panel design, how the weight sits on the body. We noted the 1.7-inch strap width but pointed out the back is just ripstop lining with no breathable mesh, so comfort under load is uncertain. |
| Weight Efficiency | 8.0/10 | Usable capacity relative to the bag's own weight and bulk. The PackWiseGear team was impressed that this 6-liter sling at only 440 grams swallowed a large amount of tech and travel gear, making it light for its capacity. |
| Versatility | 9.0/10 | How well the bag adapts across commuting, travel, photography, tech carry, EDC and weekend use. We called this sling fantastically versatile for travel with excellent external carry options and no cons in our eyes. |
How to Read the Scores
- 9.0–10 Exceptional
- 8.0–8.9 Excellent
- 7.0–7.9 Good
- 6.0–6.9 Average
- below 6.0 Significant compromises
Every PackWiseGear rating is weighted by purpose — the categories that matter most for a given kind of gear count for more (Organization and Access weigh heavier for tech pouches; Comfort and Weight Efficiency for large slings and backpacks). Scores run 0–10 with one-decimal precision, and the overall number is computed from the category weights — never hand-entered — so it stays honest and comparable across reviews. Full methodology →
